Congress leader KC Venugopal has given a notice of breach of privilege in the Lok Sabha against Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Venugopal alleged that Singh lied in the House about the martyrdom of soldiers in Operation Sindoor and misled the nation.
New Delhi [भारत]June 30 (ANI): Congress leader KC Venugopal on Tuesday wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla demanding action for breach of privilege against Rajnath Singh. He alleged that the Defense Minister told “blatant lies” to mislead the House about the casualties among Indian soldiers in Operation Sindoor.
Venugopal, in a post on X, said that Rajnath Singh had said in his speech in the Lok Sabha in July 2025 that no Indian soldier was martyred in Operation Sindoor. Venugopal said in a post on
He further said, “It is a grave insult to the families of those six martyrs and the entire armed forces that the people of India were not told about their bravery and supreme sacrifice.”
The Congress leader said the soldiers gave their lives in the service of the nation, “protecting it from our enemies”, and the so-called nationalist government simply lied about their martyrdom.
Misleading the House, breach of privilege
He said it is a settled rule that if a minister misleads the House or conceals information, it is a breach of privilege, which amounts to contempt of the House. Venugopal said, “In this regard, I have written a letter to the Honorable Lok Sabha Speaker requesting him to initiate breach of privilege proceedings against the Defense Minister.”
In his post, the Congress leader also shared his breach of privilege notice against the Defense Minister. Referring to Rajnath Singh’s speech in the House, the Congress leader said that contrary to these comments, a statement has been issued that the following six armed forces personnel were martyred during Operation Sindoor.
Names of these 6 soldiers mentioned in the notice
The notice read, “Subedar Major Pawan Kumar (Indian Army), Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Vir Chakra (Indian Army), Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar (Indian Army), Aviation Technician Mood Murlinaik (Indian Army), Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh (Indian Army), Sergeant Surendra Kumar, Vayu Sena Medal (Indian Air Force). The above situation clearly indicates that the Defense Minister, while giving the statement on the floor of the House that no one during Operation Sindoor There were no casualties, was clearly misleading and false.”
The notice further said, “It is well established that misleading the House or concealing information from the House by a Minister on the floor of the House is a breach of privilege and contempt of the House. In view of the above, I request that proceedings for breach of privilege be initiated against the Defense Minister in this matter.”
The names of six Indian security personnel who sacrificed their lives during Operation Sindoor in May 2025 have been inscribed on the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
India had launched ‘Operation Vermillion’ in response to the Pahalgam terror attack and attacked terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and PoJK. Later India effectively responded to Pakistan’s aggression by attacking its airbase. (ANI)
