Story of Mohini Ekadashi fast
– According to religious texts, once upon a time, a Vaishya i.e. businessman named Dhanpal lived in a city named Bhadravati. He was of very pious nature and was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. That businessman had 5 sons, out of which the eldest son was of very evil nature. Due to which the businessman was very worried.
– The businessman’s son used to go to prostitutes and gamble etc. Dhanpal tried hard to convince him but he did not agree, so one day his father got fed up and threw him out of the house. Now that son of Dhanpal started stealing for his living and also used to rob people.

– Once soldiers caught him red handed while stealing. The king put him in jail. Later, at the behest of the king, the soldiers left him outside the city. One day he did not get anything to eat or drink, due to which he reached Kaundinya Muni’s ashram suffering from hunger and thirst.
– When a few drops of the wet clothes of Kaundinya Muni fell on that Vaishya son, his intellect became pure. He asked sage Kaundinya the solution to get rid of his sins. Then the sage asked him to observe Mohini Ekadashi fast in the month of Vaisakh. When the time came, Vaishya’s son observed a fast on Mohini Ekadashi.
– Due to the effect of this fast, all his sins were destroyed. After death he got Vishnuloka. Listening to the story of this fast gives a reward equal to the virtue of sacrificing 1000 cows. Any person who observes Mohini Ekadashi fast must listen to this story. Only then does he get the full benefits of this fast.
