Focus on Middle East and trade
Both the leaders had a serious discussion on the situation in West Asia i.e. the Middle East. Special emphasis was laid on keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and safe. This sea route is very important for the world, because oil and essential goods are supplied from here. Apart from this, it was also agreed to further strengthen trade relations between India and America. PM Modi said that both the countries want to increase cooperation in every field and will remain in constant touch.
First call after US-Iran talks
This conversation is also considered important because this is the first conversation between the two leaders after the recent ceasefire between America and Iran. Earlier, talks between the two countries lasted for about 21 hours in Islamabad, but no concrete agreement could be reached.
Anxiety increased amid stress
According to reports, face-to-face talks took place between America and Iran after almost 47 years, but there was no result. After this, Trump announced a blockade of Iran’s ports and coastal areas. In response, Iran has warned of targeting ports located in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. However, hope still remains. According to sources, the next talks between the two countries may take place this week or early next week.
Conversations have taken place many times before
It is noteworthy that before this, talks had taken place between Modi and Trump on 2 February and 24 March also. Trade and regional situation were major issues in those discussions also. India has been continuously emphasizing on the policy of peace and tension reduction.
Why is this conversation important?
In the current global situation, India’s role is being seen as a balancing country. In such a situation, this conversation between Modi and Trump is not just being considered a diplomatic call, but also an indication of global strategy in the coming times. If the situation in the Middle East deteriorates, it could have a direct impact on oil prices, trade and global supply chains—which is why this conversation is considered extremely important.
