Singer Mika Singh has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden demise of filmmaker Sanjay Gupta. Mika fondly remembered Gupta as a “godfather” who played a pivotal role in launching his Bollywood career.
Taking to social media, Mika shared an emotional tribute, highlighting Gupta’s qualities as a wonderful human being, a down-to-earth personality, and an incredible filmmaker. He posted a picture with Gupta, writing, “Today has been one of the most shocking and heartbreaking days for me. My big brother, Sanjay Gupta Ji, a wonderful human being, a down-to-earth personality, and an incredible filmmaker, director and producer, has left us far too soon.”
Mika credited Gupta for giving him his first major Bollywood break with the popular song ‘Ganpat’ from the 2007 film ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’. This track, featuring Vivek Oberoi, significantly boosted Mika’s presence in the Hindi film music industry.
Sanjay Gupta, 59, passed away on October 30 at his Mumbai residence. Reports indicate he sustained a head injury after a fall in the bathroom during the night, which went unnoticed until the next morning. His family was reportedly home but unaware of the incident at the time.
Gupta made his directorial debut with ‘Aatish: Feel the Fire’ in 1994 and went on to direct notable films like ‘Kaante’, ‘Musafir’, ‘Zinda’, ‘Shootout at Wadala’, ‘Jazbaa’, ‘Kaabil’, and ‘Mumbai Saga’. His last work, ‘The Miranda Brothers’, was released in 2025.
