France’s Kylian Mbappe has overtaken Lionel Messi. He is now ranked No. 1 in both the FIFA Power Rankings and the race for the Golden Boot. Mbappe is on top with 6 goals and 2 assists, while Messi has 6 goals.
Zurich: France captain Kylian Mbappe has defeated Argentina’s legend Lionel Messi on two fronts simultaneously. After scoring two goals against Sweden, Mbappe has now reached the top of both the FIFA Power Rankings and the race for the Golden Boot for the top scorer.
Thanks to this brilliant performance against Sweden, Mbappe moved up two places to number 1 in the FIFA power rankings, while Messi slipped to second place.
FIFA prepares this power ranking based on the scores of players’ attacking, creativity and defending skills. According to the new ranking, Mbappe’s attacking score is 8.79, creativity score is 7.48 and defending score is 4.71. Whereas, Messi’s scores are 8.27, 6.38 and 5.17 respectively. In this list, Erling Holland of Norway has also jumped 4 places and is now at number three. Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo is ranked 74th, while France’s Michel Olisse has moved up 15 places to 71st.
Brazilian star Vinicius Junior has dropped one place to fifth place and France’s Ousmane Dembele remains at seventh place. Players who made big jumps in the rankings include Ivory Coast’s Amad Diallo (up 29 places to 10th) and Mexico’s Julian Quinones (up 30 places to 11th). But the biggest gainer went to Norway’s Antonio Nusa, who jumped 106 places to reach 30th position.
Not only the power ranking, Mbappe has also left Messi behind in the race for the Golden Boot. Mbappe is at number one with 6 goals and 2 assists. Messi also has 6 goals, but he has no assists in his name, hence he is at second place. In this race, Norway’s Erling Haaland is third with 5 goals, France’s Ousmane Dembele (4 goals, 2 assists) is fourth and Vinicius Junior (4 goals, 1 assist) is fifth.
