BSP Chief Mayawati termed the alleged financial irregularities in Ram Temple as serious. He said that the culprits should be punished, but there should be no politics on this. He has suggested adopting accounting system like other big temples for transparency.
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [भारत]June 30 (ANI): Amid the ongoing political turmoil in Uttar Pradesh, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday described the alleged financial scam in the Ram Temple as “extremely serious and deeply worrying”. Also, he urged political parties not to politicize the issue. In a post on X, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said those found guilty should not be spared, but she also warned against taking political advantage of the case.
Suggestions given for transparency
The BSP chief further suggested that the financial accounting systems adopted in other major temples across the country should also be implemented in the Ram temple to ensure transparency in the management of offerings. Mayawati said, “The various daily reports in the media regarding theft, embezzlement and misappropriation of offerings at the Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya are extremely serious and deeply worrying. Such people should not be spared at all; however, it is also not right to politicize this matter. To ensure that no complaints arise in the future regarding the sacred offerings at the temple, the financial accounts used for the management of offerings at other major and famous temples in the country will be audited. It would be appropriate to resolve this matter expeditiously by simulating and implementing the systems.”
‘Politics should not be criminalized’
The BSP chief also stressed the need to keep politics, crime and religion strictly separate to maintain constitutional values. He said, “It would be appropriate and constitutional that there should be no criminalization of politics, politicization of crime, politicization of religion and blind communalization of politics in the country. This is BSP’s advice to political parties in the interest of the nation and the public, as well as our appeal to the people of the country.”
Political tussle continues on the matter
The recent controversy over alleged embezzlement of donations has sparked a new political turmoil in the state. While opposition parties have cornered the government on the issue, the ruling BJP has hit back by reminding the opposition of its previous stand against the construction of Ram temple and accusing them of stoking controversy.
On Monday, a local court in Ayodhya sent all the accused in the alleged donation scam to 14-day judicial custody. The court’s decision comes after a thorough investigation by the Uttar Pradesh Police into reports of financial irregularities and misuse of funds and offerings at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple. The case has sparked a major political row in Uttar Pradesh, with the ruling BJP and opposition parties leveling sharp allegations at each other over the management of the temple’s finances while the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation continues.
