Maverick Viñales praises consistency after a result above the expectations in Malaysia

In a tough race with high temperatures, Maverick Viñales finished the MotoGP Malaysian GP in seventh place – achieving his third consecutive top ten result.

The Spanish rider from Aprilia poarticularly appreciated the consistency, stating: ‘It was hot. It was a good race – far from the top, but consistent. To be honest, P7 was more than what we expected, so this is really, really good. I could ride quite well throug all the race, trying to do the pace, trying to don’t cook the tyres – so, I was controlling a lot. And nothing else, let’s move on’.

Although he acknowledged that it wouldn’t have been possible to do better, Viñales is enjoying the recent consistency: ‘I think that was the maximum from what we have, and we need to keep going. But the consistency is good – we are doing sixth, seventh, eighth. There is a consistency in the races, so we need to keep going’.

The #12 admitted that the heat was still a problem: ‘I had it, as usual, so I don’t want to add much more about this. It was very hot, it was hard to finish the race, but I could finish, I’m in a good position and still with a good pace’.

Regarding the brakes, which have been an issue for Aprilia, Viñales confirmed that there were improvements: ‘Much better. We used the 355mm [front] brake in the race, and also one specific thing that we couldn’t bring that maintains the tyre a little bit cooler. So, it was more grip, [I made] less mistakes, so I could be much more precise. So, it was better’.
