Maruti Suzuki Jimny SUV Sales Cross 4,500 Units In December

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door made its India debut last year, 5 years later than when the 3-door went on sale in foreign markets. The Jimny is a hard core off-roader which is quite underrated and features a very reliable 1.5L naturally aspirated k-series engine which produces 103 bhp and 134 Nm of torque paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

It also features a part time four-wheel-drive system with low-range and a trick traction control system called the “All-Grip”. The sales of the Jimny started slow but it managed to cross 4,500 units in December of 2023, after the introduction of the new Thunder edition which slashed the starting price of Jimny by almost 2 lakh. The Thunder edition was available in all the variants with a lot of accessories as standard.

The discounts have officially been rolled back and the starting price of the Jimny is back to what it was previously. There are no official discounts present on the Jimny for Maruti Suzuki and discount will be only offered at the dealer level if any. The starting price of the Jimny is back to Rs 12.74 lakh for the base Zeta variant with the manual transmission. The Jimny is sold through Nexa dealerships in India and goes against the likes of the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha which are also hard core off-roaders. The sheer aftermarket support and reliability of the Jimny combined with the enhusiast following made the Jimny popular and a highly anticipated car in India, however it was not well received due to the higher pricing compared to its rivals which were bigger and offerred more powerful engines. The Jimny however uses its size to its advantage and is a more nimble off-roader which is often regarded as a mountain goat
