Manisha Koirala, who entertained the audiences with charm, beauty, and acting skills in the 90s, returned to the screen with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.
Recently, she recalled a phase in her career when she was bored of the acting profession. Still, Dimple Kapadia asked her to enjoy the craft, and Koirala felt the veteran actress couldn’t decipher her perspective.
In a candid conversation with Desk, Manisha Koirala recalled a phase in her career when she couldn’t get excited at the prospect of work and was bored with her profession. As a result, she expressed her feelings to , who was shooting with her for a film. But the Bobby actress said something she couldn’t anticipate.
Koirala shared, “I told her, ‘I am bored of acting.’ And she said, ‘You better enjoy it because this is not going to last forever.’ And such great advice she gave me. But, at that point in time, I was like, ‘Yeh kya keh rahi hai? (What is she even saying?) Can’t she understand I am bored?’ My inner conversation was different.”
However, a few years later, the Dil Se actress understood the meaning and intention behind the Sagar actress’s ‘sound advice’ as she could relate to it. But Koirala explained she felt bored of acting in a phase of her life when she worked multiple shifts a day on different films that left her feeling overwhelmed.
The Sanju actress explained that her day used to begin with spending 2 to 3 hours of makeup and she worked three shifts for different movies at once. To add on, unlike today, she didn’t get any leave on weekends or otherwise. Gradually, the tiredness made her lose interest in her profession back then.
Manisha Koirala made her debut in Bollywood with Saudagar in 1992. Since then, she has given several notable performances in films like Dil Se, Khamoshi the Musical, Company, 1942: A Love Story, Akele Hum Akele Tum, and more.
But she was diagnosed with cancer and underwent treatment in 2012, taking a break from work to focus on her health. Later, she resumed working and gave a wonderful performance as later actress Nargis in Sanju, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor.
