New Zealand Women became the champions by winning the T20 World Cup 2024 in United Arab Emirates. Whereas, the Indian team bowed out of the tournament in the group stages.
Subsequently, both teams tussled in a three-match ODI series which commenced on October 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
India Women managed to clinch the series by a margin of 2-1, but the players from both the teams have got a major boost in the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings. Smriti Mandhana was back in form with her 100 off 122 balls. Though that did not help her climb any spot it allowed her to reduce the point difference between here and third-placed Chamari Athapaththu. Mandhana moved from 703 to 728 ranking points and is just behind Athapaththu’s 733 points.
Nat Sciver-Brunt (760) and Laura Wolvaardt (756) are placed one and two in the rankings for batters. On the other hand, Harmanpreet Kaur entered the top 10 rankings on the back of her unbeaten 59 runs and accrued 654 rating points to share the ninth spot with Sophie Devine. Brooke Halliday experienced a substantial jump after her 86 runs off 96 balls knock. She moved up 12 places and occupies 24th spot with 524 rating points.
Deepti Sharma’s three-for propels her to second spot
Deepti Sharma’s three for 39 saw her occupying the second spot in the bowlers’ ranking. She is followed by England’s Kate Cross who has 686 points. Another England star player, Sophie Ecclestone is holding the top spot with 770 points.
Speaking of all-rounders, the list saw a single change in the form of Lea Tahuhu as she moved up to 27th spot with 126 ranking points, a substantial jump of five spots. South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp still holds the first spot with 404 points.
