Manchester City broke the bank once more during the summer transfer window. The Premier League powerhouses have reached a deal with Nottingham Forest to acquire midfielder Elliot Anderson for a ‘British record’ fee of £116 million, according to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano.
Anderson’s signing by Manchester City surpasses the previous record for a British player, which was held by Declan Rice, who reportedly got paid £105 million to join Arsenal from West Ham United.
Elliot Anderson Sets Record
Anderson is ranked second on the list of Premier League clubs’ record signings, with Liverpool’s acquisition of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United continuing to hold the first spot. Before the 2025-2026 season began, the Merseyside club paid £125 million to sign the Swedish striker.
“Elliot Anderson to Manchester City, here we go! Deal in place between clubs for fee worth £116m. MCFC sources confirm agreement now done after talks at final stages as reported last week. Anderson asked Forest today to go and leave the club. Medical in the US,” Fabrizio Romano wrote on his official X account.
An initial £80 million deal for Anderson was made by Manchester City, who lost midfielder Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid during the summer transfer window, but Forest turned it down.
Anderson, who has a contract with Forest through the summer of 2029, has emerged as one of the Premier League’s top central midfield players this season and is a key member of England’s FIFA World Cup team.
Elliot Anderson Gaining Lot Of Praise
The 23-year-old has established himself as Forest’s undisputed starter and received praise for his defensive work ethic and long-range run production. During the 2025-26 season, he played in all 38 Premier League games and only missed one starting lineup, demonstrating his tenacity.
Although Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United has long been valued by City, the Italy international is still a secondary target. It is unclear if club officials will still try to acquire the Magpies’ midfield player now that the Anderson trade has been formally finalised.
