A contractor has been arrested after a child died after falling into a pit in Greater Noida. This pit was dug inside Kala Dham Society for the water supply project. Police gave this information on Sunday. At the same time, the victim’s family has accused the authorities of negligence.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Ravi Shankar Nim said that the incident took place within the limits of Knowledge Park police station on Saturday evening. DCP told ANI, “Yesterday evening, information was received that a 6-year-old child has died in a pit being dug for water supply within the boundaries of Kaladham Society. Based on the family’s complaint, a case was immediately registered and a contractor involved in the incident has been arrested and sent to jail. Other legal proceedings are underway.”
Family accused of negligence
The victim’s father Shivan accused the authorities of negligence and said he took his son to Yatharth Hospital after residents informed him about the incident. He said, “What I would like to say about the child is that he is no longer with us. I came home yesterday evening. I was just sitting when I got the news from the people living in the colony that something like this had happened. I immediately took him to the hospital. The doctors tried a lot and after that the child was declared dead.”
Alleging negligence, he said, “But sadly, despite living in a good society, we had to suffer this due to the negligence of the authorities… What mistake had we done that my child is gone?”
Society secretary raised questions on security protocol
Kala Dham Society Secretary Devendra Shukla said that excavation work was going on for several days to fix the irregular water supply. He said he was not informed about the location of the pit and alleged that established safety protocols were not followed. “The biggest negligence in this is on the part of the contractors or the authority that gave them the work. The society has very strict protocols that if a pit is being dug, a brigade should be deployed there first,” Shukla told ANI. (ANI)
