About Main Vaapas Aaunga trailer
Main Vaapas Aaunga unfolds in a non-linear narrative, moving between past and present. In the present, ailing Naseeruddin Shah lies on his deathbed, sharing one final, heart-wrenching wish with ’s character, to return to his hometown of Sargodha, now in Pakistan.
The story then flashes back 78 years to the 1947 Partition, with Vedang Raina portraying Shah’s younger self. Raina and Sharvari’s tender love story is tragically torn apart by the chaos of Partition, culminating in a heartrending moment as Raina shouts “Main vaapas aaunga” (I will return) from a departing train.
True to Imtiaz Ali’s signature style, the film focuses not on grand political conflicts but on quiet human emotions, exploring unresolved trauma, nostalgia, and longing that resonate across generations. Adding to the anticipation is the reunion of the iconic musical trio, Imtiaz Ali, composer A.R. Rahman, and lyricist Irshad Kamil, promising a soulful, melodic score that underscores the emotional heart of the film.

Speaking about the cast of Main Vaapas Aaunga, Naseeruddin Shah plays the older Keenu, a man haunted by memories of love and loss. Vedang Raina brings to life the younger Keenu, capturing the innocence and passion of first love, while Sharvari shines as Jiya, his heart’s companion whose romance is tragically interrupted by the upheaval of Partition. Bridging the past and present, Diljit Dosanjh plays Keenu’s grandson, a caring and determined figure tasked with fulfilling his grandfather’s final, emotional wish.
