1. The water offered to Shivalinga should be pure and fresh. One should not anoint Shivling with impure water even by mistake.
2. The water offered on Shivalinga should not come into the feet, doing so is an insult to Mahadev.
3. After taking bath etc., water should be offered to Shivalinga. Do not anoint Shivalinga in an impure state.
4. Try that while offering water, your face should be towards north.
5. Do not offer water to Shivling in plastic or steel vessels. Use copper, brass or silver utensils for this.
