Maharashtra: Questions on EVM after defeat, MVA candidates demand VVPAT verification

After the results of Maharashtra Assembly elections, 230 candidates of Mahayuti have won. In such a situation, the leaders of the opposition alliance Mahavikas Aghadi have demanded to check the units of EVM VVPAT i.e. Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails. Many candidates who lost from Shiv Sena UBT spoke to Uddhav Thackeray regarding this matter. The leaders said that complaints of EVM malfunction have been received in the electoral areas.

In such a situation, EVMs should be tested. A party was organized at Uddhav Thackeray’s house during which the leaders met and discussed the reasons behind the defeat, in which the candidates said that the EVMs should be investigated.

Who became the largest opposition party?

In the election results of Maharashtra, the alliance of Shiv Sena, Bharatiya Janata Party, NCP and Ajit Pawar has won a landslide victory. He has won a total of 230 seats out of 288 assembly seats. Whereas, only 46 candidates of Mahavikas Aghadi have won. Of these, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena has got 20 seats, Congress 16, while NCP Sharad Pawar has got 10 seats.

Of these, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena has emerged as the largest opposition party in Maharashtra. According to the media agency, Congress leader Arif Naseem Khan told that he has discussed with Uddhav Thackeray regarding EVMs. He said that complaints of tampering with EVMs have been received in local areas.

He said that we have received complaints on the results from many parts of the state. India is a democratic country and the complaints should be investigated whether they are right or wrong. He said that there are many people among us who have faced defeat in this election. I am also included among the losers.

Citing a decision of the Supreme Court, he said that after the election results are declared in all the assembly constituencies, the EVM-control unit, ballot unit and VVPAT testing should be done by the engineering team.
