From time to time, the Central Government keeps coming up with many schemes for women. While presenting Budget 2023, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had launched the special scheme of Mahila Samman Bachat Yojana. This scheme has been specially designed according to the needs of women.
Regarding this scheme, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said on Monday that 43 lakh new depositors across the country have joined this small savings scheme. Let us tell you that in this scheme a savings certificate is given, in which interest is given in compounding.
Maharashtra becomes number-one
If we look at the statistics of Mahila Samman Savings Scheme, in the recent past, maximum number of women have joined this scheme in Maharashtra. According to government data, 7,46,223 women have opened accounts under this scheme in Maharashtra. Whereas 5,47,675 accounts have been opened in Tamil Nadu and 4,16,989 accounts have been opened in Odisha. Whereas in Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, 2,93,007 and 2,69,532 accounts have been opened. Also, 2,54,777 accounts have been opened in West Bengal.
Who can avail the benefit of the scheme?
Any woman can avail the benefit of Mahila Samman Savings Scheme. If a minor’s account is opened, it is opened in the name of the guardian and is transferred after he completes the age of 18 years. A maximum of Rs 2 lakh can be deposited in lump sum in this scheme. There is also an option for partial withdrawal and this scheme offers a fixed interest of 7.5%.
Rural women also joined the scheme
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had introduced this scheme in the February 2023 budget. The intention of the government behind starting this scheme is to give financial freedom to women. Let us tell you that rural women are also taking advantage of Mahila Samman Yojana. Also, women in cities are also investing in this scheme.
