Mahakaleshwar Temple Ujjain: Where is Mahakaleshwar, the third among the 12 Jyotirlingas, located? Which world famous Aarti is performed every morning in the temple of Lord Mahakal? How is Lord Mahakal decorated during Bhasma Aarti?
Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Bhasma Aarti: Bhasma Aarti was performed with reverence and tradition in Brahma Muhurta on Friday (19 June 2026) morning at the world famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple located in Ujjain. The religious rituals began as soon as the doors of the temple opened. First of all, permission for worship was taken by reciting Swastika in front of Lord Veerbhadra located in the Sabha Mandap. After this the silver doors of the sanctum sanctorum were opened and the special worship of Baba Mahakal began.

First of all Lord Mahakal was anointed with holy water. After this, Mahabhishek was performed with Panchamrit prepared from milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar and fruit juice. Karpoor Aarti was performed during the Vedic chanting, due to which the entire temple complex resonated with a devotional atmosphere.
Nandi Maharaj was also bathed, worshiped and meditated in Nandi Mandap. Baba Mahakal was given a supernatural form by offering sandalwood, hemp, ash and dry fruits. After this, she was specially adorned with silver moon, trident crown and various jewellery.

After offering ashes, Lord Mahakal was decorated with Sheshnag crown made of silver, Mundamaal, Rudraksh garlands and colorful fragrant flowers. At last the Aarti was concluded by offering fruits and sweets to the Lord. A large number of devotees from India and abroad participated in the Bhasma Aarti and received blessings after seeing the divine form of Baba Mahakal.
There is a religious belief that after the Bhasma Aarti, Lord Mahakal appears before the devotees from formless to corporeal form. This is the reason why this Aarti, which takes place early in the morning every day, remains a center of special faith and attraction for the devotees.
