Who was Eklavya?

According to Mahabharata, Ekalavya was the son of Nishad king Hiranyadhanu and wanted to become a great archer since childhood. His wish was to receive education from Dronacharya, the greatest guru of that time. When Ekalavya approached Dronacharya, he refused to make him his disciple, as he was not from the dynasty. Then Ekalavya made a clay statue of Dronacharya in the forest and started practicing archery considering him as his guru. With continuous practice he became a skilled archer.

Why did Guru Dronacharya ask for Ekalavya’s thumb?

When Dronacharya came to know that Ekalavya had become a great archer by practicing in front of his statue, he asked for the thumb of his right hand as Guru Dakshina so that he would not become the greatest archer because Dronacharya had given the boon of being the best archer to Arjuna. Ekalavya, without asking any questions, cut off his thumb and gave it to Dronacharya.

Where did Eklavya go after giving thumb?

Even after giving the thumb, Eklavya did not stop practicing and kept practicing shooting arrows with his fingers. Gradually he again acquired fighting skills and became a powerful warrior. Later Ekalavya joined the army of King Jarasandha of Magadha. Along with Jarasandha, he fought many wars and showed his bravery.

Who killed Ekalavya?

Jarasandha considered Lord Krishna as his ultimate enemy. That’s why he used to attack Mathura again and again. Once when Jarasandha attacked Mathura, Ekalavya was also with him. Shri Krishna killed many of Jarasandha’s associates in this war. Shri Krishna also had a fight with Ekalavya. In this war, Ekalavya was killed at the hands of Shri Krishna.
