LU Professor Viral Audio: Dr. Paramjit Singh, Assistant Professor in Lucknow University, has been accused of objectionable conversation with a student, obscene demands and intimidation of paper leak. Lucknow University Professor Case: University of Lucknow, located in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, is in the news these days regarding a serious controversy. An assistant professor of the zoology department of the university has been accused of serious allegations like allegedly having objectionable conversation with a student, making obscene demands and calling her on the pretext of exam paper leak. After the matter came to light, there is an atmosphere of anger in the campus and students have also started a protest campaign on social media.
The court has sent the accused Assistant Professor Dr. Paramjit Singh to judicial custody till May 20. The police have seized his laptop and mobile and sent it for forensic examination. The cyber team is also busy investigating social media accounts and phone chats.

Chaos after viral audio
The entire matter came into limelight when an alleged audio clip went viral on social media. Serious questions were raised about the conversation between the professor and the student in the audio. It is alleged that the professor used to address the student as ‘darling’ and used to call her to meet her by luring her with exams. After the audio went viral, there was huge anger among the girl students in the university campus. Many girl students released videos on social media demanding strict action from the university administration.

Police investigation intensified, team engaged in forensic investigation
The police took swift action in the case and interrogated the accused professor for a long time. After this, he was presented in the court on Saturday, from where he was sent to jail. According to ACP Mahanagar Ankit Kumar, Controller of Examinations Prof. Vidyanand Tripathi’s statement has been recorded. He repeated the same facts which were recorded in the complaint given to the police. The victim student said that she was mentally uncomfortable and asked for two days’ time to record her statement.
The police are now thoroughly investigating the mobile phone, chat records and social media activities of the accused. The investigating agencies are trying to find out whether the matter is limited to just inappropriate conversations or there are layers of bigger academic misconduct attached to it.

University administration also in action mode
Considering the seriousness of the matter, the internal inquiry committee formed on the instructions of the Vice-Chancellor has completed its investigation within 24 hours. University spokesperson Prof. Mukul Srivastava said that the report will be presented in the emergency meeting of the Executive Council on Monday.
According to sources, strict decisions like suspension or dismissal can be taken against the accused professor in the meeting. The university administration is considering this entire matter as a serious issue related to the reputation of the institute and the safety of the girl students.
Protest of girl students intensifies due to ‘Save LU’ campaign
After the case, the girl students of the university have started ‘Save LU’ campaign on social media. Students of many courses including BA, B.Ed, BALLB have posted videos demanding strict action against the accused professor.
Students say that university is not only a place of study but also a place of trust and security. If the teachers themselves start misusing their position then the confidence of the girl students is broken. A student said in the video message that teachers are considered the guardians of girl students and zero tolerance policy should be adopted in such cases. The students have also raised the demand to ensure a safe environment for women on campus.
Big question on the credibility of the campus
This incident has once again sparked a debate on the safety of girl students and accountability of teachers in educational institutions. Now the pressure has increased on the university administration to not just limit itself to investigation, but to set such an example that no teacher in future would dare to misuse his/her position. At present, the eyes of students, parents and teachers are fixed on the entire matter. There is intense discussion on the campus regarding the Executive Council meeting to be held on Monday.
