15 people died in a fire in a 3-storey building in Aliganj, Lucknow. Many people were injured. Expressing grief, PM Modi has announced compensation for the dead and injured.
Lucknow Coaching Fire Latest Updates: A major accident occurred on Monday when a massive fire broke out in a 3-storey building located on Usha Mehta Marg in Aliganj area of Lucknow. At least 15 people died in the accident, while several others were injured and some are feared still trapped inside. After the fire, a large-scale relief and rescue operation was conducted on the spot.
Fire controlled, but rescue operation continues
The fire department and rescue team brought the fire under control after several hours of hard work. However, the rescue operation continued till late to search for the people trapped inside the building. After the fire was extinguished, the rescue workers took the stretcher to the affected building through the adjacent building so that the people inside could be evacuated safely. To ease the relief work, the team also made a hole in the wall of the building, so that stretchers and other equipment could be taken inside.
22 people were taken to KGMU, 15 died
A total of 22 people were taken to King George’s Medical University (KGMU) for treatment after the accident. According to the hospital administration, 15 of these people were declared dead. Seven others are injured and are undergoing treatment. According to officials, the condition of the injured is currently stable.
Search continues for people trapped inside the building
Many people were feared trapped inside the building after the fire. The relief and rescue team continued to investigate every floor and every room. Rescue workers said efforts were being made to ensure that no one was left inside. For this, every part of the building is being carefully searched.

Announcement of compensation for the dead and injured
The Prime Minister also announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). He said that an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the next of kin of each person who lost his life in the accident. An assistance of Rs 50 thousand will be provided to the injured.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s tour canceled
After receiving information about the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath canceled the remaining parts of his scheduled programs in Aligarh and Hathras. The Chief Minister directed Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad and Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna to immediately reach the spot. Also asked to monitor relief and rescue operations and submit preliminary report of the incident. Yogi Adityanath also said that after returning to Lucknow, he himself will visit the incident site and meet the families of the victims.
Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak gave update
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that some students were feared trapped inside the building. He said that some children who came out had informed that some students might be inside the washroom. After this, rescue teams were instructed to check every room and every washroom. He also informed that hospitals and ambulance services have been put on alert so that immediate medical assistance can be provided if needed.
Attempt to save life by jumping from the building
According to officials, during the fire some people tried to get out of the building to save their lives. Some people jumped from the building, who were later taken to hospital for treatment. The administration says that necessary medical and other assistance is being provided to all the affected people.
Rescue operation seen in pictures of the incident site
Pictures from the scene showed firefighters wearing protective equipment reaching the building using the stairs. Another team was seen trying to enter through an adjacent building of similar height. Other employees were continuously busy in extinguishing the fire and evacuating people safely.
