Lord Shiva Andhakasura Story: Lord Shiva is considered the god of destruction. It is believed that Mahadev becomes happy with just one pot of water. The glory of Mahadev has been sung for ages. Many sages and demons performed rigorous penance for Mahadev and by pleasing him, he obtained the desired boon. One such demon was Andhakasura. The boon given by Mahadev to Andhakasura had become a curse for the gods. Let us know this whole story.
According to the legend, Andhakasura was born during the time of Tretayuga. He was blind since birth. He was born from the sweat of Mother Parvati, but pleased with the devotion of the demon king Hiranyaksha, who was doing rigorous penance to have a son, Lord Shiva gave the blind child to her. Despite being blind, Andhakasura wished to have empire over the entire universe. To fulfill his wish, he started rigorous penance of Lord Shiva. Years passed by. Andhakasura remained engrossed in his penance. Ultimately his penance was successful.
Mahadev gave this boon to Andhakasura
Mahadev was pleased with Andhakasura’s penance and appeared before him and said, “Ask people, what boon do you want?” After listening to Mahadev, Andhakasura said that wherever even a drop of my blood falls, hundreds of demons like me should arise there. Mahadev gave Andhakasura his desired boon and with the same boon, there was an uproar in all the three worlds. The gods ran away, the sages trembled and the earth cried.
Mahadev ended Andhakasura
At last all the gods called out to Mahadev for help. Then, at the request and protection of everyone, Mahadev started a war against his own boon. The war between Lord Shiva and Andhakasura was so fierce that wherever Shiva’s sweat drops fell, the earth broke into two parts and Mangal Dev was born from Shiva’s sweat drops. When Shiva killed Andhakasura, his blood started scattering in every direction.
After this, Mangal Dev absorbed every drop of Andhakasura’s blood within himself, so that no new demon could be born. Mangal Dev was born from the earth, hence he is called Bhaum.
