Iran’s money is stuck

Around 100 billion dollars i.e. 9 lakh crore rupees of Iran are stuck in different countries, which it is not able to use even if it wants to. This money was mainly earned by selling oil, but it was frozen due to US and European sanctions. Its beginning is considered to be from 1979, when relations between America and Iran deteriorated. After this, many countries imposed strict sanctions on Iran regarding its nuclear and missile programs. In 2018, Donald Trump pulled out of the nuclear deal and imposed new sanctions, which further blocked Iran’s foreign funds.
In which countries is it difficult?
Iran’s money is deposited in many countries. According to NDTV report, about $20 billion is stuck in China, about $6 billion each in Iraq and Qatar, $1.5 billion in Japan, about $2 billion in America and some part is also stuck in Europe. This money is in different banks, but Iran cannot withdraw it. If Iran gets this money, its economy can get great relief. With this, he will be able to import food items and medicines easily. It will also help in stabilizing its weakening currency and reducing inflation. Apart from this, investment in industry and infrastructure may increase.
The biggest controversy is regarding the 6 billion dollars kept in Qatar. This money was earlier in South Korea, which was sent to Qatar in 2023 under the prisoner agreement. But later America banned it again. Iran says that America had promised to leave the money, while America denies this. Now this issue has heated up again because Iran is making it a condition for talks.
