Christian Harms, who left his $200,000 a year job at Microsoft and came to Australia, said that the journey of becoming a content creator was not easy and at times he doubted his decision.
Former Microsoft employee Christian Harms has openly shared his struggle after leaving his high-paying job. Christian told through a post on Instagram that he left his $2 lakh (Rs 1.90 crore) annual job at Microsoft in Switzerland and went to Australia to start his new journey. Harms’ dream was to become a content creator, build his own business and become a startup founder. But he admitted that things did not go according to plan.
Why did you decide to leave your job at Microsoft?
Christian Harms said that he always believed that leaving his job at Microsoft was the right decision. Despite this, sometimes they start doubting their decision. He shared a video titled “My Museum of Failures as a 27 year old who quit his dream job”. In it he said, “Leaving Microsoft was probably the stupidest decision of my life. The good salary, job stability and corporate life make you feel like leaving a job is wrong. I know I’m on the right path, but there come some days when I doubt myself so much that I feel suffocated.”
Left $200,000 salary and started a new journey
Harms told that while working at Microsoft, he was getting many facilities along with a good salary. He had told in one of his old videos that due to his job in Switzerland, he also got a chance to travel across Europe. Despite this, he left this job at the age of 26 and decided to go to Australia. He said, “At the age of 26, I left a job at Microsoft with an annual salary of $ 2 lakh to make videos for brands on the Internet. I thought that by now I would have started my own startup, but it did not happen. Sometimes it feels like I have disappointed the person who had taken such a big step, even though I knew I was moving in the right direction.”
Reached Australia without any solid planning
Christian Harms told that when he arrived in Australia, he did not have any definite plan. He gave himself five months to explore new paths. According to Christian, “I made my first income online just a week before my flight home. The deadline made me do what months of planning could not do. Then I realized that I often work hard only when I have a big challenge in front of me.”
Tried to build a business, but had no direction
Harms said he tried to build his business for several months. Later he realized that he never asked himself whether the business he was working on was really needed or not. He wrote, “I spent months building a business, but didn’t think about whether I should even build one. I called it ‘due diligence’, but really it was just fear, hidden behind a to-do list. I worked for months without any clear direction and ultimately did not get much results.”

Christian Harms told that now he is sharing his entire journey with people on Instagram. Their aim is to show what it really feels like to leave a stable and secure job and chase your dreams. According to him, he is documenting his journey so that people can understand not only the success but also the struggles, failures and moments of self-doubt that people who choose new paths have to face.
