KTR calls lathicharge ‘undemocratic’
Hyderabad (Telangana) [भारत]July 20 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Monday criticized the alleged police action against youth and students protesting in Delhi over the alleged NEET exam paper leak. He described the alleged lathicharge on peaceful protesters as “undemocratic and shameful” and urged the central government to stop “suppressing dissent”.
In a post on The post further read, “I strongly condemn this. The central government should immediately stop suppressing dissent. In solidarity with every student and citizen fighting for accountability. Stay safe.”
March towards Parliament, demonstration intensified
Meanwhile, protests intensified in the national capital over alleged exam irregularities, as members of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) attempted to march towards Parliament demanding accountability over the alleged paper leak. Delhi Police personnel were injured while dispersing protesters near Parliament Street. A sub-inspector of Delhi Police said, “We were standing near the barricades, stones were thrown from them (protesters).”
Dimple Yadav called it a ‘black day for democracy’
Earlier, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav had also strongly condemned the police action on students protesting at Jantar Mantar, calling it a “black day for democracy” and demanded the removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Alleging that students were beaten, their clothes were torn and excessive force was used during the protests, Yadav said the opposition would raise the issue in Parliament and hold the government accountable. “Students have been beaten. Today will be remembered as a dark day for democracy and our history. Even you could see shame in the eyes of some policemen. Yet, in the line of duty, they removed their name badges and moved forward. Some police officers behaved like goons. While some were cooperative, others came without uniform and beat the students, even giving them electric shocks. Contrary to the rule that force is to be applied only on the legs. “They have hit the students in the chest. Today, they have hit the heart of Mother India. We demand the removal of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan,” he said. (ANI)
