When asked what women want, Sanon said, “To not be judged, and people should mind their own business.”
The actor’s comments come months after she faced intense trolling over her outfit in a Raksha Bandhan campaign for jewellery brand GIVA. In the advertisement, Sanon was seen celebrating the festival in a bralette-style blouse paired with a cape and a draped skirt. While the campaign promoted jewellery, much of the online conversation revolved around her plunging neckline, with some social media users accusing the brand of disrespecting the traditional sanctity of Raksha Bandhan.
The controversy even drew a reaction from Kangana Ranaut, who took a swipe at the campaign. “Why would you tie a rakhi to your brother while wearing a bikini or undergarments?” she asked, calling the commercial “intentionally creepy”.
Sanon, however, was quick to push back against the criticism. In a long note, she questioned why another woman’s clothing choices were such a source of concern. “Imagine being this bothered by what another woman chooses to wear. Respectfully, evolve,” she wrote.
The actor took another subtle dig at the moral policing surrounding festive dressing. On Raksha Bandhan, she shared a picture with her younger sister, Nupur Sanon, with rakhis tied around their wrists.
“While the Rakhi fashion committee is still in session. We are focusing on what really matters. Happy Rakhi to all,” read the caption.
Meanwhile, the sixth season of What Women Want promises a star-studded lineup, with guests including Pankaj Tripathi, Maheep Kapoor, Bhavana Pandey, Guneet Monga, Ali Fazal and Neetu Singh, among others.
