There will be an important match between the women’s football teams of South and North Korea on May 20. For the first time since 2018, a North Korean team will play in South Korea. All 7,087 tickets for the match were sold out within hours.
A football match is going to take place in South Korea, which people were eagerly waiting for. This match is between the teams of South Korea and North Korea. The madness surrounding this match is such that all its tickets were sold out in just half a day. Seoul’s Football Association gave this information to AFP on Friday.
An official of the Korea Football Association said that the sale of tickets for this match to be held on May 20 started on Tuesday. 7,087 general tickets for the match between home team Suwon FC Women and North Korea’s Naegohyang Women’s FC were sold out within about 12 hours.
These two teams will clash in the semi-finals of the Women’s Asian Champions League. This match will be held in Suwon city, about 35 kilometers from Seoul. This match is also special because for the first time since 2018, a sports team from North Korea is coming to play in the neighboring country South Korea.
Let us tell you that relations between the two Korean countries have always been tense. Technically, the two countries are still at war, because the 1950-53 war ended not in a peace agreement but in an armistice. According to local reports, since the Champions League is a club competition, the national anthems or flags of both countries will not be used during the match.
North Korean fans will not be able to come to support their team, because their citizens are generally not allowed to come to South Korea. Meanwhile, Seoul’s Unification Ministry has said it will provide 300 million won (about $200,000) to South Korean civic groups that plan to cheer on both teams in the match.
Negohyang’s team will reach South Korea by plane via Beijing on Sunday. The winning team of this semi-final will reach the final to be held in Suwon on May 23. In the final it will face either Australia’s Melbourne City or Japan’s Tokyo Verdy Belleza.
The North Korean women’s football team is traditionally considered a strong team, especially at the youth level, having won several World Cups in recent years.
