Ultraviolette has delivered 183 units of X-47 Skyforce electric motorcycles to Kolkata Police, with the official handover held at Lalbazar Police Headquarters. The company describes the induction as one of India’s largest deployments of electric motorcycles by a police force.
Developed specifically for police operations, Skyforce features a modified electronic architecture to accommodate patrol equipment. The motorcycles underwent testing before handover and will support day-to-day policing duties.
Special Equipment For Police Duty
X-47 Skyforce comes equipped with sirens, hooters, a public address system, LED blinkers and police decals. It also gets microphone holders, walkie-talkie holders and side panniers for carrying equipment.
Integrating these systems into the motorcycle’s electronics is a key part of the police-specific configuration. The crossover format is intended to support use across varied urban road conditions while accommodating the equipment officers need during patrols.
211 Km Claimed Range, 145 Km/H Top Speed
Ultraviolette quotes an IDC range of 211 km on a single charge and a 145 km/h top speed for X-47 Skyforce. Actual range during police duty will depend on traffic, riding style, load and electrical equipment usage.
The company positions the motorcycle’s acceleration and manoeuvrability as useful attributes for quick-response duties. However, the release does not provide charging times or details of the charging arrangements supporting the Kolkata Police fleet.
Potential For Lower Running Costs
Beyond replacing petrol-powered vehicles, electric motorcycles offer the potential to reduce a police fleet’s energy and maintenance expenditure. The extent of those savings will depend on daily distances, electricity tariffs, charging losses and service requirements.
The induction gives Ultraviolette a substantial deployment in regular police service. Announcing the handover, CEO and co-founder Narayan Subramaniam said the Skyforce had been developed to meet police requirements and support officers across different operational duties.
