After taking a look at the ,let us now take a look at the 4.2–4.5 metre SUV segment. It has recorded nearly 80,000 sales in August, with seven new entrants contributing over 21,600 units. to expand the field further.
India’s 4.2–4.5 metre SUV segment registered 79,691 units in August 2026, growing 66.87% over 47,756 units a year earlier. The segment added 31,935 units YoY, reflecting both an expanding model lineup and stronger volumes for several established players. However, sales declined 2.81% month-on-month from July’s 81,992 units. While the annual comparison highlights rapid expansion, sequential performance was mixed across the 23 SUV entries tracked.

4.2m to 4.5m SUV Sales Aug 2026
Hyundai Creta continues to top, despite multiple new SUVs entering the segment. Creta has retained the lead with 16,288 units, accounting for 20.44% of segment sales. Volumes increased 2.29% YoY but fell 9.95% from July’s 18,088 units. Hyundai has started testing the , which is expected to launch in 2027.
Maruti Victoris secured second place with 12,978 units, growing 14.51% MoM and moving ahead of Kia Seltos. Seltos recorded 11,716 units, up 149.97% from August 2025, although sales declined 6.58% sequentially. Together, the top three accounted for 51.43% of the segment.

Toyota Hyryder followed with 8,234 units, down 9.52% YoY but up 14.57% MoM. Maruti Grand Vitara sold 7,808 units, registering 35.96% annual growth and a 3.93% monthly decline. Mahindra Thar Roxx ranked sixth with 5,817 units, up 19.13% YoY and 1.13% MoM. Tata Sierra contributed 5,622 units, down 11.14% from July.
Seven New Entrants Account For 27% Of Sales
In the last 12 months 7 new SUVs has entered this segment. These are Maruti Victoris, Tata Sierra, Maruti eVitara, Nissan Tekton, Renault Duster, Toyota Ebella and VinFast VF6. Together, these models contributed 21,638 units, accounting for 27.15% of August 2026 volumes. Their contribution was equivalent to nearly 68% of the segment’s net YoY volume increase, with Victoris and Sierra providing the largest additions.

Growth was not restricted to newcomers. Excluding these seven entries, the remaining models collectively recorded 58,053 units, up 21.56% over their August 2025 total. Seltos and Grand Vitara were major contributors to that increase. Maruti’s expanding presence is particularly notable. Victoris, Grand Vitara and eVitara together sold 22,372 units, giving the manufacturer approximately 28.07% of the tracked segment.
Mixed Results Beyond The Leaders
Tata Curvv and Curvv EV recorded 1,904 units, up 11.80% YoY and 12.20% MoM. Mahindra BE 6 followed with 1,696 units, recovering sharply from July’s 541 units, while Maruti eVitara contributed 1,586 units. Honda Elevate is next month, reported sales decline of 20.12% YoY to 1,326 units. Skoda Kushaq grew 32.83% to 1,048 units, while Volkswagen Taigun slipped 6.29% to 938 units. MG Astor reached 720 units, more than quadrupling its low year-earlier base.
Newcomers Nissan Tekton and Renault Duster recorded 491 and 406 units, respectively, both lower than July. Toyota Ebella sold 372 units, followed by MG ZS EV at 315 and VinFast VF6 at 183. The remaining entries—Gurkha 5-door, C3 Aircross, Basalt and XUV400—each stayed below 150 units.
