Additional CP revealed that two accused also have old criminal records. He said, “Initial investigation has revealed that a company had taken this place on lease… The two accused have previous criminal records. They are being interrogated. Both DD and SIT are investigating the case and a standard operating procedure (SOP) has been prepared for the investigation.” Aggarwal also said that the police is in touch with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) regarding the structure of the collapsed building.

Bengal Minister Agnimitra will investigate the matter

Government constituted SIT to investigate

  • Meanwhile, Building Supervisor Syed Mohd. Gulzar and two labor suppliers Mohd. Ataul and Subhash Chaudhary were arrested in connection with the accident. After this, the West Bengal government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner of Police Jayasurija Mukherjee to investigate the case.
  • West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had earlier said that preliminary information showed that there were irregularities in the approved construction plan.
  • The official had said, “The plan of the project was approved on January 17, 2026. The owner of the land is SMPA and this land is on lease in the name of Shambhunath Behera and Partners. According to preliminary information, a wrong plan was initially approved.”
