Kolkata Knight Riders are on the brink of elimination after losing the IPL 2026 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Wednesday (May 13).
The Knight Riders’ four-game winning run took a terrible turn as they succumbed to a quality RCB side in Raipur, thus putting themselves on the verge of despair.
The Ajinkya Rahane-led side had no wins after the first six matches, but a string of victories gave hope. But on the night, they were not up to the mark.
Losing the toss, KKR batted first and managed 192 runs. Despite promising in patches, they failed to capitalize and could only managed a par score. In the bowling, KKR had no answer to Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, who punished their bowlers. Along with that, KKR’s fielding was dismal as well. Rovman Powell dropped Virat Kohli early, and then Vaibhav Arora missed a guilt-edge opportunity and dropped Padikkal. Kohli went to score a century and won the match for RCB with ease.

The defeat means KKR are stranded with 9 points after 11 matches – with 4 wins, 6 defeats and 1 washed out against PBKS. The win for RCB meant they have now gone to 16 points, thus on the brink of qualifying for playoffs.

KKR have put themselves on the brink of elimination, but they can still qualify for the playoffs if a series of results go in their favour. To qualify for the playoffs, KKR will have to win their last 3 matches and then hope for external help. If the Knight Riders win their last three matches, they will finish with 15 points.

Kolkata Knight Riders have Punjab Kings (13 pts in 11 matches), Sunrisers Hyderabad (14 pts in 12 matches), Chennai Super Kings (12 pts in 11 matches), Rajasthan Royals (12 pts in 11 matches) ahead of them at the moment.
Delhi Capitals have 10 points in 12 matches, while Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are already eliminated.

How can KKR Qualify? The Results which must go Their Way
Considering KKR win all of their last three matches, here are the matches which can shape their fate.
If CSK win against SRH, but lose against LSG and GT in their last two matches, they will finish with 14 points. Similarly, Rajasthan Royals’ defeat against LSG and MI will also give KKR a huge boost.
In case of Sunrisers Hyderabad, SRH losing their last two matches against CSK and RCB will also keep them stranded at 14 points. If RR lose a couple of their matches, that would also benefit the Knight Riders.
The upcoming matches will further portray a clearer picture for KKR, but the bottom line is that KKR can’t afford to slip up anymore, if they are to have any meagre chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
