Kirit Somaiya Seeks Look Out Circular Against Actor Imran Khan Over Mumbai Protest

BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya has approached the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and immigration authorities seeking a Look Out Circular (LOC) against actor Imran Khan, urging that he be prevented from travelling abroad until an inquiry into his complaint and a related Mumbai Police investigation are completed.

In a letter dated October 13 to Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Somaiya requested directions to restrict the actor’s overseas travel under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. He also asked the Bureau of Immigration to issue an LOC and alert the police if Khan attempts to leave the country.

The request follows a protest held at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on October 10, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Somaiya alleged that the gathering had taken place without the required permission and claimed that Khan had participated in the demonstration before being detained by Mumbai Police.

According to Somaiya’s letter, Gamdevi Police Station registered FIR No. 813 of 2026 in connection with the incident, naming the actor in the case. Somaiya said he had not received a copy of the FIR.

The BJP leader further claimed that Khan is a US citizen and reportedly holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. He urged the authorities to examine whether the actor’s participation in the protest warranted action under Section 7D of the Citizenship Act, 1955, and the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.

Sharing a copy of his letter on X, Somaiya wrote, “Requested Immigration Home Ministry to issue a LOC (look out circular) against #ImranKhan to NOT to leave India.”

He also asked the Bureau of Immigration to inform Gamdevi Police Station if Khan attempts to travel overseas and sought a written update on the action taken in response to his request.

Khan was detained by Mumbai Police on October 10 while attending the demonstration organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

Somaiya’s request for a travel restriction is a demand to the authorities; the letter does not establish that an LOC has been issued or that a travel ban is in force.
