Idukki: The police have arrested a man who had gone missing after the disappearance of his mother and brother in Idukki district of Kerala on Tuesday. The accused is the younger son of the missing woman, officials said. He was taken into custody after the decomposed bodies of his mother and brother were found buried.
Bodies found after police conduct search operations
The accused, identified as Saji, was taken in custody from a property near the house. The arrest was made after the two bodies were found in a pit in the compound of a house. Both bodies were found after the police conducted search operations for two missing persons. The missing persons whose decomposed bodies were found have been identified as Marykutty (70) and her son Reji (48). Both are residents of Thootuvakada in Kalkoonthal village
“A detailed interrogation is underway, and further proceedings will be initiated thereafter,” a police officer said as per news agency PTI. The police is yet to confirm whether the accused has accepted his crime. Sharing further details, the police said that the woman’s daughter Sini had filed a missing persons complaint on Sunday. It was based on her complaint that the police registered the case.
Both bodies were sent for a post-mortem
During its probe, the police found that the two bodies were buried dug pit. Soon after the forensic team reached the spot, after which two two bodies were exhumed. Both bodies have been shifted to a hospital to find out the cause of the death. The police will also carry out DNA analysis.
The police, so far, suspect that the two victims were murdered before their bodies were buried in the compound. They added that Saji had earlier given contradictory statements on the disappearance of his mother and brother, which raised suspicion among relatives as well as locals.
