Brewers’ Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn Begin Rehab Assignments as Injury Recovery Continues

MILWAUKEE (AP) – Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn of the Milwaukee Brewers have commenced rehabilitation assignments, aiming for activation from the injured list by Monday.

Both players plan to travel to Nashville, home of the Brewers’ Triple-A affiliate, on Tuesday evening as they recover from fractured left hands. Chourio has yet to play this season, while Vaughn participated in only one game before his injury.

Injury Details

Chourio sustained his injury when he was hit by a pitch from Clayton Beeter of the Washington Nationals during a March 4 exhibition match while representing Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. Although he missed the initial games of the tournament, he later returned to help Venezuela secure the championship. However, discomfort from a check swing led to an MRI, which revealed a small hairline fracture at the base of his third metacarpal.

Player Performance

In the previous season, Chourio recorded a batting average of .270 with a .308 on-base percentage, hitting 21 home runs, driving in 78 runs, and stealing 21 bases over 131 games.

Vaughn, 28, had a successful stint with the Brewers last season, posting a .308 batting average and a .375 on-base percentage, alongside nine home runs and 46 RBIs in 64 games after joining the team from the Chicago White Sox. Before his transfer, he struggled with a .189 average and a .218 on-base percentage in 48 games with the White Sox.

Team Challenges

The Brewers are currently facing challenges in generating offensive power, with Chourio, Vaughn, and Christian Yelich all sidelined due to injuries. Yelich is dealing with an adductor strain and is anticipated to return in mid to late May.

As of their Tuesday matchup against Arizona, the Brewers had not hit a home run in their last seven games, marking the longest stretch without a home run since 1999, when they recorded a franchise-high 13 consecutive games without a homer.
