How did the accident happen?

A massive explosion occurred due to a sudden fire in a firecracker unit located in Mundathicode area of ​​Thrissur. It is being told that a large quantity of fireworks were kept inside the unit, in which as soon as the fire broke out, explosions started happening one after the other. The accident was so horrific that 6 people died on the spot, while about 40 people were injured. The condition of 8 of the injured is said to be critical.

Rescue operation continues, number of deaths may increase

As soon as information about the incident was received, police and fire brigade teams reached the spot and relief work was started. Many injured were immediately rushed to hospital, of which 18 have been admitted to Thrissur Medical College. According to officials, there is a possibility of more people being trapped under the debris, due to which the death toll may increase.

This festival is celebrated every year at the Vadakkunathan temple and is called the ‘Mother of Poorams’. During this period, decorated elephants, traditional ‘Chenda Melam’ music, display of colorful umbrellas and grand fireworks are the main attractions.

Firecrackers were kept for fireworks

According to the information, these firecrackers were brought for the fireworks to be held in Thrissur Pooram. These were stored in a shed in Thiruvambadi division. These firecrackers suddenly caught fire on Tuesday afternoon, after which rapid explosions started and the entire area was filled with smoke and explosions.
