Plants also need special care while changing homes. They can be kept healthy by providing them with proper water, safe transportation and adjusting slowly to the new place.
As much as moving house is challenging for people, it is an equally difficult time for house plants too. Changes in temperature, shocks during travel and the environment of a new place sometimes harm plants. However, by keeping a few simple things in mind, you can keep your favorite plants safe and help them adjust easily to the new place.
Make preparations 2-3 weeks before shifting
Pay special attention to plant care about two to three weeks before moving house. Avoid repotting, pruning or giving them extra fertilizer during this time. Water regularly and also check that there are no pests or diseases in the plants. Healthy plants are able to withstand the stress of travel better.
Provide adequate amount of water before transport
Soil that is too dry can weaken the plants, while soil that is too wet can become heavy and damage the roots. Therefore, one or two days before shifting, water the plants so much that the soil remains slightly moist.
Protect leaves and twigs from damage
Place small plants in a box and cover them with newspaper or soft material so that they do not move. Protect leaves and branches of larger plants by lightly wrapping them with cloth or newspaper. This reduces the risk of breakage during travel.
Avoid sudden changes in temperature
During shifting, do not leave the plants in strong sunlight or very cold environment for a long time. If possible, transport them in an air-conditioned car, as tropical plants are extremely sensitive to both heat and cold.
Give plants time to adjust to the new place
After reaching the new place, avoid immediately planting the plants in other soil or changing the place frequently. Keep them in a place where they can get the same amount of light as before. It is normal for some leaves to turn yellow or fall off in the initial days. It may take about two weeks for the plants to adjust to the new environment.
Do not make the mistake of applying fertilizer immediately
Many people think that by giving fertilizer after shifting, the plants will recover quickly, but experts do not believe so. Let the plants adapt to the new environment first. When new leaves or new branches start emerging, start regular fertilization.

Monitor plants for signs of stress and recovery
The first few weeks after moving house are very important. If the leaves are turning yellow, the plant is withering or the leaves are falling, then gradually balance the amount of water and light. The appearance of new leaves and fresh branches is an indication that the plant is adjusting to its new home.
