Lord Shiva temples: The glory of Shiva and Shakti is infinite, but when it comes to Mahadev’s form in Kedarnath (India) and Pashupatinath (Nepal), it is not just a story of two temples. According to mythological beliefs, there is such a deep and unbreakable spiritual connection between these two temples. It is said that if Kedarnath If Pashupatinath is not visited after the darshan, then the journey is considered incomplete. Let us know in detail the mythological story and spiritual mystery behind it.

What is mythology?

According to mythology, after the Mahabharata war, when the Pandavas went to Lord Shiva to seek salvation from their sins, Shiva got angry with them and started avoiding meeting them. Hiding at various places, they finally settled secretly in Kedar region of Uttarakhand. It is said that Lord Shiva took the form of a bull (Nandi), but the Pandavas recognized him. As soon as the Pandavas tried to catch the bull, Shiva started sinking into the ground. During that time his body got divided into different parts. Shiva’s torso (hump) appeared in Kedarnath while his face appeared in Pashupatinath (Nepal). For this reason both these Dhams are considered connected to each other.

Spiritual relation between Kedarnath and Pashupatinath

Kedarnath temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and here Lord Shiva is worshiped in the form of Kedareshwar. This temple is situated between the high peaks of the Himalayas and every year lakhs of devotees come here for darshan. There is a religious belief that the devotee who visits both Kedarnath and Pashupatinath temples gets special virtues and all his wishes are fulfilled.

Why is it said that Lord Shiva’s soul resides between these two?

According to the scriptures and beliefs, Lord Shiva is formless and does not have any definite form. Their divided form in Kedarnath and Pashupatinath symbolizes that Shiva is present everywhere and in every form. The distance between these two temples may be hundreds of kilometers, but devotees believe that this entire area is filled with the energy of Shiva. This is why it is said that Shiva’s torso is in Kedar and face is in Pashupatinath, and the soul of Mahadev resides between them.

Religious significance and beliefs

The journey to both these places is considered very auspicious. Especially during the month of Sawan, Mahashivratri and Shravan Monday, a huge crowd of devotees gather here. It is believed that sins are destroyed by visiting Kedarnath, salvation is attained by visiting Pashupatinath and all the troubles of life are removed by a joint visit to both the places.
