Kedarnath Yatra: Kedarnath Highway has been closed due to landslides near Rudraprayag and Sonprayag in Uttarakhand. The administration has advised passengers to be cautious.
Rudraprayag: Continuous heavy rains in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand have made normal life and the ongoing Char Dham Yatra difficult. Traffic on Kedarnath Highway has come to a standstill due to landslide in Munkatiya near Sonprayag. After the road is closed, machines like JCB have been deployed to remove the debris and resume traffic. The district administration is monitoring the entire situation from the District Disaster Control Room. At the same time, officers have also been instructed to remain alert 24 hours at sensitive places.
Road closed in Munkatiya near Gaurikund
- District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Nandan Singh Rajwar said that despite this obstruction on the road, the Kedarnath Yatra is going on smoothly. He expressed confidence that the closed road will be opened soon.
- He told ANI, “Kedarnath Yatra is going on smoothly. The road is closed at Munkatiya near Gaurikund, where a JCB is working and that route will also be opened soon. Our Sector Officers and other teams are also constantly keeping an eye on the Yatra route, so that if any such situation arises, they will be immediately ready to help the pilgrims. The District Magistrate has also directed that those given the responsibility should remain alert in their respective areas.”
Strict warning from administration to avoid travelling.
- The administration has advised pilgrims and local people to be cautious during heavy rains, stay at safe places, avoid unnecessary travel and follow the advisories issued by the authorities.
- Meanwhile, in nearby Tehri Garhwal district also, traffic on Nainbag route has been stopped due to debris falling near Mussoorie Bend (Kampti).
- According to Tehri Police, JCB machines have been pressed into service and debris removal work is going on war footing to resume traffic as soon as possible.
- Police have advised passengers to travel only when absolutely necessary and follow traffic related advisories and instructions. (ANI)
