Here on Sunday morning, the dead body of a 12 year old girl was found near her house, after which anger spread in the entire area. The girl was missing since Saturday evening. Police suspect that the girl was murdered after being raped. This incident took place in Galwanpora village. A search operation was carried out throughout the night after the girl went missing on Saturday evening. Ultimately, his body was found just 200 meters from his house on Sunday morning. This incident has shocked people in the entire valley and there is anger everywhere.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hariprasad KK said, “Legal and medical formalities have been completed. Prima facie it appears to be a case of rape and murder and all necessary sections related to it have been added to the FIR.” He further said, “We will do everything possible to solve this case.”
According to officials, the police had received information about the girl’s disappearance around 10 pm on Saturday night. Soon after this, search teams started a massive search operation in the village and surrounding areas. This village is about 10 minutes drive from Srinagar Airport. The girl’s body was found about 200 meters away from her house on Sunday morning.
No one was arrested in this case till Sunday evening. Omar Abdullah, the then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, assured that his government would provide full cooperation to the investigating agencies so that the culprits could be given “strictest punishment”. Health Minister Sakina Ittu met the victim’s family and promised them “all possible help and justice”.
Former chief minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti described the killing as a grim reminder of the growing insecurity of women and children. People’s Conference chief Sajjad Gani Lone said he was deeply shocked by the incident. “The allegations surrounding this crime make it even more painful and disturbing,” he said.
