Karuppu Kerala Box Office Collection Day 1 (Morning Trend): Karuppu has arrived in theatres, giving Suriya the first major release of 2026. The action drama features Suriya in a double role, which also marks the 45th lead film for the actor.
The project reunites Suriya and Trisha Krishnan after more than two decades, driving strong buzz and early worldwide box-office tracking. Backed by Dream Warrior Pictures, Karuppu is directed by RJ Balaji, who appears in the film as well. Promotions have stressed gritty action scenes and intense emotional drama through posters and trailers. This approach has helped attract viewers across India, especially regular followers of Tamil cinema who closely watch Suriya’s big theatrical releases.
Suriya and Trisha Krishnan’s on-screen partnership already carries a strong record in Tamil cinema. The pair last worked together in Mounam Pesiyadhe, Aayutha Ezhuthu and Aaru during the early 2000s. These three titles still have loyal fans, which explains the curiosity around their latest collaboration, supported by Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, Supreeth Reddy and Yogi Babu. The road to release for Karuppu was not smooth. Shows scheduled on 14 May were cancelled because of financial issues, causing confusion for fans. Screenings began after that setback, and interest has stayed strong. The star cast, reports about delays, and heavy coverage in entertainment media continue to drive attention towards Karuppu’s box-office run.

Will Karuppu Beat Retro Day 1 Kerala Collection?
To note, Karuppu has been witnessing frequent comparisons with Suriya’s previous release Retro. While Karuppu is eyeing a collection of over Rs 1.5cr at the Kerala box office, it will be interesting to see if it can beat day 1 collection of Retro in Kerala which happens to be Rs 2.50cr.
Meanwhile, talking about Karuppu, director RJ Balaji stated, “I don’t want to overpromise and underdeliver. It is a very entertaining, mass masala film with Suriya sir we always love. Ayan, Singam… all the films that we have seen of him… so that is the Suriya sir I wanted to show in this film. The film is made for people of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra… It is not made for people on social media. It is made for those who celebrate cinema in the darkness of cinema halls, not for those who do postmortems on social media. Not for them. This is for all of us to celebrate”.
