Bengaluru: Amid talks of a change in leadership in Karnataka, Congress MLA Allamprabhu Patil on Saturday expressed hope for a ministerial berth. He has appealed to the party leadership to give him a place in the cabinet in view of his five decades long political experience and work.

  • Speaking to ANI, Patil said, “I have been in the party since 1972. I have been in this political arena for 50 years, and I am also hoping for a ministerial berth. I request our leaders Mallikarjun Kharge sahib, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Siddaramaiah sahib and D.K. Shivakumar to give me a chance.
  • Emphasizing the need for representation from backward districts also, he said that leaders from such areas have an important role.
  • He further said, “When I was in power earlier, many things were implemented. I created the Togri Board. I have worked a lot in my mandal panchayats and district panchayats. I have also worked in the Legislative Council, and everyone knows this. So, I once again request you to give me a chance.”
  • Patil informed that a meeting is to be held at 4 pm today, and senior Congress leaders will be present to oversee the process of electing the new CLP leader.

All eyes fixed on Congress meeting in Karnataka

  • He said, “After Siddaramaiah’s resignation as Chief Minister, our CLP meeting is scheduled today at 4 pm. AICC leaders KC Venugopal, Randeep Surjewala and state Congress president DK Shivakumar will be there and we have asked all the MLAs, MLCs and MPs to be present there to elect the new CLP leader.”
  • Patil also said, “After this, all the leaders will sit together and start the further process. Today, everyone will come 100 per cent. Three-four people are out and have given letters; they also completely agree with everyone’s opinion.”

Who will be crowned after Siddaramaiah’s resignation?

  • This CLP meeting is taking place after Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot accepted Siddaramaiah’s resignation and dissolved the Council of Ministers with immediate effect. However, Siddaramaiah has been asked to continue as the Chief Minister until alternative arrangements are made.
  • Karnataka Congress president and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had said on Friday that the CLP meeting will be held in Bengaluru at 4 pm in the presence of party observers, who will consult the Congress high command before taking a final decision on leadership and organizational matters.
