Karnataka High Court grants interim bail to actor Darshan in Renukaswamy murder case

New Delhi: Karnataka HC on Wednesday (October 30, 2024) granted interim bail to actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, on medical grounds.

Reportedly, the decision was taken by Justice S Vishwajith Shetty to enable the 47-year-old star to undergo surgery.

The order on the interim bail application was reserved on Tuesday (October 29, 2024) after hearing detailed arguments from State Public Prosecutor P Prasanna Kumar and Darshan’s legal representative senior advocate CV Nagesh. It was claimed that Darshan was suffering from numbness in both feet.

As a result, the accused requested permission for his surgery, which is expected to be performed at a private hospital in Mysuru. It is to be noted that Darshan will cover all associated costs of the medical procedure.

The request was opposed by the prosecutor who raised objections, alleging that the medical documents lacked specifics on the number of days Darshan would need to be hospitalised. Arguments were also presented for the surgery to be performed at a government hospital.

Renukaswamy Case

It is said that 33-year-old Renukaswamy was a fan of Darshan. He had allegedly sent obscene messages to his friend Pavithra Gowda, which enraged Darshan. This turn of events allegedly led to his murder. Renukaswamy’s mortal remains were discovered near a stormwater drain next to an apartment in Sumanahalli in June 2024.

Renukaswamy was brought to a shed in RR Nagar by Raghavendra, one of the accused who is part of Darshan’s fan club in Chitradurga, under the pretext that the actor wanted to meet him. Instead, Renukaswamy was allegedly tortured and murdered there. His postmortem report revealed that he passed away due to shock and hemorrhage as a result of multiple blunt injuries.
