“In exercise of the powers conferred on me by clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India, I, Thawar Chand Gehlot, Governor of Karnataka, do invite the Karnataka Legislative Assembly to meet at Bengaluru on Thursday, the 13th August, 2026, at 11.00 am,” the order said.
discussion on cabinet expansion
Meanwhile, before the assembly session, the market of discussions is hot regarding cabinet expansion under the leadership of Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. Congress leader Randeep Surjewala had said that the party wants to expand the cabinet before the start of the assembly session. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) is holding a meeting today to discuss cabinet expansion.
“There will be a meeting at 8 pm tonight. I think everything (on cabinet expansion) will be discussed,” former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah told reporters.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said any final decision on the expansion of the state Cabinet depends entirely on the Congress party high command after talks with top state leaders. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru before leaving for New Delhi, Parameshwara confirmed that Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, KPCC president and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah are in Delhi to discuss cabinet expansion with the Congress central leadership. He said that any action would be taken only after the approval of the party.
He said, “The CM, party president and former chief minister are in Delhi. They will discuss the matter with the party high command. The cabinet expansion will happen only when the high command takes a decision. We are now going to Delhi, and the result will be known only after those discussions.”
Opposition will raise the issue of Kaveri
Meanwhile, opposition parties are likely to raise the issue of Cauvery river water dispute in the Assembly. The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) has recommended that Karnataka release 3500 cusecs of water per day to Tamil Nadu for the next 15 days.
