Lord Ram was freed from sin
When Lord Shri Ram was guilty of the sin of Brahmahatya after killing Ravana to conquer Lanka, Guru Vashishtha advised him to come here with Mother Sita. Here he worshiped and circumambulated Mahadev, only after which he was freed from the sin of Brahmahatya. According to history, this temple was built in the 12th century.
Even when most of the temples of Kashi were damaged during the Mughal period, this temple remained intact. Later in the 18th century, Queen Bhavani of Bengal got it rebuilt. This temple is still the center of faith for thousands of devotees.
