Kapil Sibal accused BJP of horse-trading and said that the party is breaking TMC, NCP and Shiv Sena MPs to get two-third majority in Parliament, so that it can pass laws of its own choice.
New Delhi [भारत]July 18 (ANI): Rajya Sabha MP and senior lawyer Kapil Sibal on Saturday alleged that the BJP is trying to get two-thirds majority in Parliament through ‘horse-trading’ so that it can pass any law of its choice. He said that the number of MPs from Trinamool Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena has been increased by bringing them into the ruling alliance.
‘TMC, NCP and Shiv Sena MPs were broken’
Speaking to ANI, Sibal said, ‘Why is BJP doing this horse-trading? Twenty Trinamool Congress MPs merged their legislative group with a party from the North-East whose name we had never even heard of, and started sitting in Parliament. The Speaker has not yet given any decision on their seating arrangement. It’s twenty. Then news came that he had also taken some NCP members to his side. Along with seven members of your party, some members of Shiv Sena also went with him.
Many important bills will be presented in the monsoon session
His comments came ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, which is scheduled to begin on July 20 and end on August 13. President Draupadi Murmu has approved the government’s recommendation to convene both the Houses for a four-week session.
The upcoming session is also expected to introduce the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, both of which are meant to replace existing ordinances. Apart from these measures, the government will also take up the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Prevention of Insults to National Honor (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
