Kanpur Metro News: What is the last process left to start metro service from Kanpur Central to Naubasta? How many new stations will be added on Naubasta section and how many underground stations are there? What major benefit will the passengers get after the entire corridor of Kanpur Metro becomes operational?

A big news related to relief and facilities has come to light for lakhs of people of Kanpur city. The metro expansion which was awaited for a long time has now reached the final stage. Almost all preparations to start metro service from Kanpur Central Railway Station to Naubasta have been completed and now only the final security clearance is awaited.

If everything goes as per plan, then Corridor-1 of Kanpur Metro can be fully operational in the first fortnight of July. This will provide fast, safe and convenient public transport to millions of passengers in the southern part of the city.

Preparations completed at stations, staff also deployed

UP Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has almost completed operational preparations at all seven stations from Central Station to Naubasta. 36 ticket vending machines have been installed and necessary human resources have also been deployed for station operations.

Station superintendent, train operator, ticketing staff and security personnel have been deployed on duty in three shifts so that there is no problem in operations once the service starts.

Awaiting CMRS approval

Before the start of the metro service, the track, station and security arrangements will be inspected by the team of Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). After inspection if all parameters are found correct then “OK to Run” certificate will be issued.

UPMRC officials are hopeful that the CMRS team will reach Kanpur soon and after the completion of the inspection process, the report can also be received within a week.

Service may start between 10th and 15th July

Metro management estimates that after completion of all the formalities, passenger services can be started from Central Station to Naubasta between July 10 and 15.

Earlier, UPMRC Director (Works and Infrastructure) C.P. Singh will also inspect the entire section and submit his report to the Managing Director.

Seven new stations will join the network

A total of seven new stations have been built between Kanpur Central and Naubasta. These include two underground and five elevated stations.

After the commencement of these stations, the entire network of Corridor-1 will be available to the passengers.

Currently metro is running for 16 kilometers

At present, Kanpur Metro is operating on a 16 km long section from IIT to Kanpur Central. 25 to 30 thousand passengers are traveling on this route every day.

Due to the Metro, the journey from IIT to Central Station is being completed in just 27 minutes, whereas it often takes 75 minutes or more to cover the same distance by road.

Project worth more than Rs 11 thousand crore

Kanpur Metro project is among the biggest urban transport projects of the city. As per the approved DPR, its total estimated cost is Rs 11,076.48 crore.

In the entire project, two major corridors of 32.50 km length are being developed, which will have a total of 29 stations. These include 19 elevated and 10 underground stations.

The second corridor is proposed from CSA to Barra-8, on which construction work is in progress.
