NDMA reviewed the Jyotirmath rehabilitation works and gave instructions for time bound construction, compensation distribution, scientific monitoring and expediting projects worth Rs 292 crore.
Dehradun. National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Member Ms Rita Misal and Member Mr Dinesh Kumar Aswal on Thursday conducted a detailed review of the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction works following the Jyotirmath landslide at the State Emergency Operation Centre. In the meeting, the progress of the work being done by various departments, the challenges being faced and the further action plan were discussed in detail.
Both the members of NDMA directed the concerned departments to complete all the projects within the stipulated time. Also, special attention should be paid to quality, transparency and accountability in construction works, so that the affected people can get relief soon.
Joshimath Rehabilitation: NDMA’s special emphasis on participation of local people
Ms. Rita Missal said that active participation of the local community is very important for the success of the rehabilitation works of Jyotirmath. He told the officials that all the schemes should be implemented by winning the trust of the local people and taking them along, so that the rehabilitation process can proceed without any hindrance. He said that the Central Government and the National Disaster Management Authority stand strongly with every affected family. Along with rehabilitation, the livelihood of the affected people will also be given priority so that they can return to normal life soon.
Compensation Update: Instructions for transparency and timeliness in compensation distribution
The progress of compensation being given to families affected by landslides was also reviewed in the meeting. NDMA members directed the officials that the entire process of compensation distribution should be completed in a transparent, fair and within stipulated time, so that no eligible family has to wait unnecessarily.
Scientific Monitoring: Modern equipment will be installed to monitor landslides
NDMA member Shri Dinesh Kumar Aswal said that it is very important to do scientific assessment from time to time of the risk of landslide in Jyotirmath area. For this, modern monitoring systems should be installed soon so that real-time monitoring of land activities can be done and any potential danger can be detected in time.
He also took information from various departments about the challenges being faced during the current work and discussed their solutions. He assured that if the state government needs any kind of technical or other assistance, NDMA will provide all possible support.
Joshimath Project Fund: Reconstruction work going on at a rapid pace with Rs 292 crore
Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman said that the Central Government had released the first installment of Rs 292 crore from the sanctioned amount for the Jyotirmath Revival Project to the State Government in May 2025. With this amount, work is being done rapidly on slope stabilization, toe protection, sewer network, drainage system and other important infrastructure projects. NDMA members expressed satisfaction over the progress of these works and gave instructions to maintain the quality.
Unsafe Buildings Demolition: Process to remove 55 unsafe buildings expedited
District Magistrate Chamoli Gaurav Kumar informed in the meeting that 55 buildings declared unsafe in the area have been identified for demolition and this process has started. NDMA members directed that this campaign should be further expedited so that any possible accident or risk can be reduced in future.
Uttarakhand Disaster Management: Rehabilitation works are the top priority of the state government
Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said that the state government is taking the Jyotirmath rehabilitation project forward with top priority. Reconstruction and rehabilitation works are being expedited by establishing better coordination between all departments. He said that quality, transparency and timeliness are being ensured in each project so as to provide safe and permanent rehabilitation to the affected families. Many senior officials of NDMA and State Government were present in the meeting, who reviewed the progress of various projects and gave necessary directions.
PDNA 2025 Fund: Strategy for effective utilization of Rs 811 crore also discussed
During the meeting held in Dehradun, effective utilization of Rs 811 crore sanctioned under PDNA-2025 after various disasters in the year 2025 was also discussed in detail. Officials said that the state government has received the first installment of Rs 182.67 crore under this item. NDMA directed that the available funds should be utilized expeditiously and result-oriented on the basis of priorities, so that rehabilitation and reconstruction works can be further expedited.
