Got a seat in JoSAA counting? So understand these 3 options well

Freeze

As soon as you are allotted a seat, the computer will present you with three options. It is mandatory for you to choose one of these. The first one in this is Freeze. This means that you are completely happy with the seat and college you have got. Now you do not have to go to any further rounds. You are locking this seat.

Float

This means that you are keeping the seat you got now, but you want to see if you can get a better college or branch in the next round. If a better choice is found in the next round, this old seat will automatically be released.

Slide

This means that you want to stay in the college you have got, but you wish to move to a better branch (like mechanical to computer science) within the same college.

The step of online reporting and fees is most important.

Just choosing the option after getting the seat is not enough. You will be required to complete online reporting, the last date of which is June 26, 2026. In this you will have to upload your 10th-12th marksheet, JEE admit card, medical certificate and category certificate (if applicable) on the portal. Apart from this, Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) will have to be deposited. This fee is ₹ 30,000 for general category students and ₹ 15,000 for reserved category (SC, ST, PwD). If you do not deposit this fee by 5 pm on 26th June, your allotted seat will be immediately canceled and you will not be able to participate in any further counseling rounds.

What to do if you do not get a seat in JoSAA counting?

If you have not been allotted any college in Round 1, then there is no need to panic or worry at all. You do not have to pay any fees nor upload any documents in the first round. You directly wait for the allotment of the next round (Round 2). As higher ranked students give up their seats or shift to IITs, lower ranked students will start getting seats.

Do these 5 things after seeing the results

  1. After seeing the result, save the screenshot or PDF of the college, branch and allotment status. This will be useful in case of any problem in future.
  2. Don’t choose any option in haste. If you expect a better college then choose Float, if you want a better branch in the same college then choose Slide and if you are completely satisfied then choose Freeze.
  3. Keep 10th-12th marksheet, JEE admit card, category certificate (if applicable) and other important documents in a folder. No time will be wasted searching for documents later.
  4. If you have got a seat then make preparations to deposit the fees immediately. Waiting for the last date may cause server or payment related problems.
  5. Don’t panic if you haven’t found the college of your choice. Understand your chances of upgrading to the next round by looking at last year’s cutoff and your rank.
