There was an uproar in the newly formed Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on the very first day on Monday when a resolution was brought against Article 370. The ruling National Conference (NC) has also criticized the proposal. This proposal was brought by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Parra in protest against Article 370. At the same time, other parties of the valley expressed support on this.
Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also ignored this move of the PDP MLA in the House. National Conference said that this step of PDP MLA from Pulwama Parra has been taken with the aim of bypassing the proposal of Jammu and Kashmir government on this issue. However, the ruling party said that it is hopeful that when the ruling party presents this proposal during the session, all the MLAs will support it.
BJP strongly opposed Parra’s proposal
The ruling National Conference posted on Twitter, ‘This was a very clever effort by the PDP MLA. Its clear objective was to thwart the government’s move to present the proposal. Pulwama MLA Parra protesting against the abrogation of Article 370. A resolution was presented in the Assembly demanding restoration of the special status of the erstwhile state. After that there started an uproar in the house.
Parra presented his proposal soon after seven-time Jammu and Kashmir MLA Abdul Rahim Rather was elected the first Speaker of the Union Territory Assembly. Parra’s proposal was strongly opposed by BJP MLAs and all 28 party MLAs stood up on their seats. Parra later said that his proposal was to restore the legacy of NC founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah.
Mehbooba Mufti said- proud of Parra
Parra’s party said it was proud of the move. PDP President Mehbooba Mufti appreciated this step. Mehbooba Mufti wrote on X, ‘Proud of Waheed Para for opposing the abrogation of Article 370 and bringing the proposal to restore special status. God bless you.
In a separate post, he expressed his gratitude to People’s Conference chief and Handwara MLA Sajad Lone, Shopian MLA Shabir Kulle and Langate MLA Sheikh Khurshid for supporting Parra’s proposal. Lone said that he fully supports any proposal demanding the restoration of Article 370.

Awami Ittehad Party leader and Longate MLA Sheikh Khurshid accused NC of joining hands with BJP. He claimed that this nexus was clearly visible in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, when both the parties seemed united to stifle any discussion on Article 370.
