My sister was very hardworking and always wanted to do something. He got the job only last month and got his first salary on June 2. He shared this happiness with us by calling home.
To celebrate his job, the whole family was preparing to go to Mumbai to meet him on June 5. Had also booked flight tickets. But God took away all the happiness from us.
While telling this, Shrutika’s elder brother Shubham starts sobbing. Shrutika Burnwal, resident of Bokaro, Jharkhand, is also among those who lost their lives in the fire in the illegal hotel of Haujrani.
Shrutika had joined the Rubber, Chemical and Petrochemical Skill Development Council (RCPSDC) in Mumbai only last month. It is an NGO, working under the Ministry of Skill Development and National Skill Development Corporation.
Shrutika had come to Delhi in connection with work and had booked a hotel room from June 1 to 3. The flight back to Mumbai was booked for the evening of June 3. But Shrutika lost her life in an accident that happened in the morning.
Happy to get job, people celebrated in Mumbai
Shrutika was a student of the Water Policy and Governance Program (2024-2026) of the School of Habitat Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and had joined the job in Mumbai just a month ago. Brother Shubham tells that Shrutika had reached Delhi on 30th June and stayed at a relative’s place till 30th and 31st June.
Had booked a room here from 1st to 3rd June due to work and meeting. I had talked to Shrutika on June 2 itself and informed my father over the phone that I had received my first salary. She was very happy. We had planned to visit our sister in Mumbai on June 5 to share her happiness. But little did we know that this wish of our sister would not be fulfilled.
Shrutika’s entire family lives in Jainamore, Bokaro, Jharkhand. After the accident, father Ramesh Prasad Burnwal sent a message to his friends and relatives in Delhi asking for help. Shrutika’s last rites have been performed on Thursday.
