The fire that took place in the newborn ward of Jhansi Medical College in Uttar Pradesh has shocked everyone. Last Friday, 10 children died in a fire in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College. Since the incident, many questions are being raised on the hospital administration. Meanwhile, the fire department in the capital Lucknow has sent notices to 80 hospitals for not following the relevant guidelines.
Giving information on Monday, November 18, Chief Fire Officer Mangesh Kumar said that 906 hospitals and buildings have been identified in Lucknow for the need of inspection of safety standards. According to the officer, the fire department team is taking action against them. He said that fire safety arrangements in 80 hospitals of the capital Lucknow were found not to be as per the standards, for which notices have been issued to the hospitals. Apart from this, the fire department team is also taking action at other hospitals.
Fire department will take action against hospitals
The official said that in this regard, District Chief Medical Officer N.B. A letter has also been written to Singh, in which it has been said that the standards should be met in the hospitals where notices were given. He said that if concrete steps are not taken by the hospitals to meet the safety standards, then legal action will be taken by the fire department and those hospitals will be sealed.
It is necessary to have fire fighting equipment in the hospital
In this case, Chief Medical Officer N.B. Singh says that for hospitals with a capacity of less than 50 beds, there is no need to obtain no objection certificate from the fire department, they are only registered. Singh said that if the building is constructed against the standards or does not have fire fighting equipment then the fire department is free to take action against it.
Medical department team is inspecting hospitals
Apart from this, he also told that the medical department team is also inspecting many hospitals. Hospitals are being thoroughly inspected and wherever deficiencies are found, notices are being issued. He said that if improvements are not made even after receiving the notice, the licenses of those hospitals will be cancelled.
